Abstract
This book addresses a pivotal issue in private international law, the phenomenon of dual or multiple nationality and the resulting conflicts of laws, where this legal bond between an individual and a state is of paramount importance, as jurists and legal scholars attribute the emergence and proliferation of this phenomenon to a multitude of factors, some contemporary to the individual’s birth, and others arising later in life.
The widespread prevalence of multiple nationalities on the international stage has generated numerous problems, both in terms of conflicts of sovereignty between states and conflicts concerning which laws should be applied, which has led to disruption in the concept of the status of aliens, particularly in cases where a new nationality is sought to evade legal obligations, where this practice is referred to as legal fraud (fraud in law), which has prompted members of the international community to seek various preventative and remedial measures to eliminate or, at least, mitigate the problem of multiple nationality.
